Solstice Chapter 24

I grabbed the light and padded over to where I had last seen Her... Him... whatever *laughs*  and glanced about...

A broad brimmed felt hat sat upon the floor, and next to it, leaning against the wall, was a small leather backpack bulging suggestively here and there with mysterious Things...

I slung the pack casually over one shoulder, donned the hat and marveled at the fit... felt quite dapper actually *grins*  I padded back to the bed roll and gathered that up, too.  Never could tell when something like that might come in handy, ya know?

I was feeling pretty giddy...

I was ME again.  Finally.

I had a light.

I had a pack of stuff and a bedroll.

I padded over to a low table to find a way to attach the bedroll to the pack, the cool dust of the floor puffing up between my toes as I walked.

I was well rested.

I was focused.

I found a way to attach the bedroll and once again slung the pack over my shoulder.  I stood up then, and surveyed the room, feeling very sharp indeed.

I looked to the left and saw an arched doorway leading into a vaulted chamber beyond...

I looked to the right and saw an arched doorway leading into a vaulted chamber beyond...

Among all of the other things I had...

I Also didn't have a Clue as to which way to go *laughs!*

I sat on the edge of the table and made doodles in the dust with my big toe.

Something struck me as odd...

I looked at my feet in wonder.

Oh, they were My feet, there was nothing wrong with them...

They were just Bare.  *sigh*

Bear feet would have been better... or even No feet, tentacles, perhaps...

but Bare feet were not good.

In this Realm, as in the other, you REALLY needed a way to get around... distances were... Odd here.  Just getting into the next room could prove to be a chore, while zapping yourself across a continent in the flash of an eye was common place.

The vehicle could be Anything... Seven League Boots... a Magic Carpet or Enchanted Mist... perhaps a mythical beast, a cape, a ring... SOMETHING.

Oh, you could move around just fine without a vehicle... you just couldn't Go anywhere *laughs*

She'd... He'd... THEY had left me everything but the shoes *sighs*

And without shoes or some sort of vehicle, my travels would end here, in the chambers beneath the rosy ruins.

I sat on the edge of the table, tapping my toes in the dust, watching the little puffs rise up and settle back down again, pondering my problem, trying to find some solution Other than walk blindly about waiting for the Fates to intervene.

I was beginning to believe that would be the only answer when the lamp flickered...
