Solstice
Chapter 9
So I'm
layin'
there, face down on
a beach. A nice sandy beach, complete with warm tropical
breeze.
And I'm more than content ta just lay there, ya
know?... it
was warm, dry, stable... the memory of the mermaids kiss still
deliciously
fresh *dreamy* ya, I was just gonna stay Right There for a while.
I shnuggled
the
sand a bit, scrunchin'
out a lump that wasn't sittin' right, and was just settling
back
to let the breeze dry me off when I felt something sharp Poke me in the
cheek.
It poked me
again,
twice this time.
Inwardly I
sighed. This just
wasn't going to stop no matter how ready I was for a break.
Outwardly I
opened
my one eye that
wasn't buried in the sands and peeked...
... and saw
a very
odd deeply
blue eyeball on the end of an eyestalk peeking back at me.
I blinked.
It blinked.
My gaze
followed
the eyestalk down
to a bright green carapace and another eyestalk, complete with deep blue
eyeball.
Something
sharp
poked me in the
cheek again and my gaze drifted over that way to find a (at this range)
Giant green crab claw poking me in my cheek just below my eyeball.
I twitched
my
cheek and returned
my gaze towards the little crab.
It blinked
the one
eyeball at me...
... then it
swung
the claw around
towards my eyeball.
I flinched
and
squenched my eye
shut tight! waiting, half frozen in fear, for the claw to thrust
through
my eyeball and into whatever was left of my brains beyond.
...
and waited...
...
... finally
I
peeked again,
expecting to see the sadistic little bugger just sitting there, poised
to unleash some poisonously painful poke in my peeper, only
to
see
two eyestalks looking at me now.
I glanced
over for
the claw but
enstead saw a shinygreen arm... leg... whatever. I
stretched
my eyeball All the way over and could Just see the claw pointing upward.
I glanced
back at
the eyestalks.
One of the
eyeballs staring back
at me blinked...
Then they
both
looked upwards.
*sigh*
There was no
way
around it, I was
going to Have to look.
I closed my
eyes,
heaved a sigh
and rolled over.
There was a
little
pebble under
my right shoulder, which stood out like a boulder on such
soft
sands,
and I thought briefly about scrunching it out of existence before
opening
my eyes, but just then the little green crabby dude poked me in the
neck.
I snapped my
eyes
open.
Now, I
Expected to
see an ocean
of water hanging about ten feet over the beach complete with little
fishies
and merfolk swimin' around in it. And I
Also expected
to see a more normally placed ocean bordering the sandy beach I landed
on and stretching off to the horizon. And I was Also
Expecting
the
little green crabby guy to Expect ME to freak out like a stoopid bozo
and
run around like a chicken with its head cut off when I saw that there
was
an Ocean of water hanging over my head *giggles*
What I Saw
was an
ocean of water
hanging over my head with little fishies and merfolk and things
swimmin'
around in it, pretty much like I Expected. I rolled my head
lazily
to the left and a more normally placed ocean, stretching to the
horizon,
came into view, followed by more beach, and finally the little green
crabby
guy lookin' at me like I was a bozo too stoopid to run away from an
ocean
hanging over his head.
I smiled
warmly at
the little crabby
dude, thinkin' "ahha, gotcha"
I don't know
what
the little crabby
dude was thinking but he shrugged a nice flamboyant little shrug and
scuttled
back about two steps, glancing up nervously.
I giggled.
No Way was I
buying it.
I Slooowly
returned my gaze to the
ocean above me, marveling at it's beauty, and turned my head back just
in time to see a rather large dark green bottle break the surface of
the
ocean directly above me.
I was
mesmerized
for a moment by
the unnatural way the water fell back UP into the ocean above, while
the
green bottle continued to fall DOWN towards my head.
I vividly
remember
the bottle twisting
a bit, and the label rushing up to obscure my view, which irritated me
for a second because the spectacle above Was kinda pretty....
The last
thing I
saw was the word
BRUT in very fancy letters before hearing this deliciously hollow
and
very meaty Thwunk!
I'm not one
hundred percent certain
what happened next because at that exact moment I became a universe
full
of stars with one very big brass gong where my head should have been...
