Lazy Feed Five

Whereas I am about as smart as a sack of hammers, blind as a bat, and very much a busted chromosome bozoboy, I still tend to be marginally observant.  Especially when something hits me upside the head.  Repeatedly.

So here's the story.  I recently hooked up (via the internet) with an old school chum from way back.  Last time I chatted with this dude he was the proud father of a baby daughter... She will be starting college this year, and his son (who I did know about) will be a senior in high school, so that's how long it has been since we've seen each other.

He gave me a little gossip about some of the old gang.  He and two other old comrades are still living in the same town, doing their thing...

I gave him the tip of the iceberg version of what I'd been up to these past years to wit he replied:

"Good to see you've been livin' life"

It was that "living life" line that got me... not much at first but over the course of the next few days the following lines popped up and hit me upside the head.  I was not searching for "life" quotes, just doing my normal daily bs routine, but I find it interesting that this cluster of concepts came at me pretty much all at once...

"A life need not be measured by the number of years, but rather by the contributions of the individual."

"The key to immortality is to first live a life worth remembering."

"We all have inner demons to fight, we call them Fear and Anger and Hatred.  If we don't conquer them then a life of a hundred years is a tragedy.  If you do, then a life of a single day can be a triumph."

Kinda freeky, huh?

As I ponder it, I feel that my old comrade is right, I Have lived a life.  LIVED it.  Not only that, but lived IN it...  I am reminded of something John Muir said:

“Most people are on the world, not in it - having no conscious sympathy or relationship to anything about them - undiffused, separate, and rigidly alone like marbles of polished stone, touching but separate”

Not to slam you or them or anybody, but I can't help but wonder how many people can honestly say they have Lived a life... a life worth remembering, full of contributions and conquered fears...

Now then, I am far from fearless, I have anger and hatreds, my ex-wife can tell you that I'm not the best of contributors... But I have Lived... and as John Carter of Mars said "I still live!"

But is it worth remembering?

Time will tell.

Welcome to the new Lazy venue.
